Student Project

Final Touch Web Design

Project Overview

Final Touch is a fictional commerce business designed to connect users with luxury brands and furniture items.

I designed this website as part of my studies for an ‘Intro to UX Design” online course. This project helped me to build a foundation of UX design and software skills.

 The Challenge

Design a commerce site to sell luxury furniture.

The brief was to design a commerce website to increase sales. I decided to base the project on a fictional company, ‘Final Touch’, the aim is to connect shoppers with luxury furniture.

Insight

Research

I surveyed 20 people to understand their experience in shopping for furniture. My key takeaway was the frustration felt by shoppers in the time it takes to browse for furniture. A number of people surveyed also wanted somewhere to create collections and to view others’ collections as inspiration for decorating a room.

Competitor Analysis

I completed a competitor analysis of four of the market-leading furniture sales companies. I used the results of this analysis to decide on how to structure my site and develop brand guidelines.

Harrods

House of Isabella

Luxdeco

Ikea

 Goals

Defining the project goals

  • Connect users with bespoke and luxury furniture

  • Display a myriad of brands and manufactures in one place to make furniture shopping more accessible

  • Increase sales of products from partnering brands

Personas

Creating empathy

Based on my research, I created primary and secondary personas to develop an understanding of the target users’ needs. I refer back to the personas throughout the project to anchor the users at the center of the design process.

User Goals

  • Spend less time shopping

  • Create and view collections

  • Filter and sort results

User Frustrations

  • Searching many suppliers’ sites

  • Unintuitive websites and apps

  • Spending time browsing

User Flow Diagram

I created a user flow to anticipate how the user will interact with the app. This process helps identify key functions within the app and screens to design.

 Ideation

Low-Fidelity Wireframes

To begin the ideation process, I put pen to paper and begin sketching. I design many variations of each screen to map out possible structures.

High-Fidelity Wireframes

Once I have decided on the structure and functionality of the app. I use Figma to develop the final pixel-perfect wireframes as a base for my designs.

Design

Design Guidelines

I developed brand guidelines based on current UI trends, target persona information and effective styles from my competitor analysis. These are then applied to the wireframes to create an initial prototype.

The Solution

 User Interface Design

Final Touch connects consumers with luxury furniture suppliers. Displaying all brands and products in one place to create an efficient shopping experience.

Once a member, you are able to create your own collection or view others for inspiration. This will increase multiple product orders.

Final Touch encourages shopping by category and has a range of filtering options for a swift purchase.
